A
t Al Rabeeh Academy, children in the Early Years are assessed daily through informed
observations of their play. These observations, documented and shared with parents via Seesaw, an online learning journey platform, help track each child’s development. The insights gained from these observations guide the teacher in planning appropriate next steps and challenges, ensuring that every child progresses at their own pace. Children are also encouraged to use De Bono’s Thinking Hats to reflect on and assess their own learning, fostering independence and critical thinking skills.
International Benchmarking
At the start of the academic year, baseline assessments are conducted, focusing on the seven areas of learning: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Communication and Language, Mathematics, Literacy, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design. By the end of FS2, children are assessed against the Early Learning Goals.
In the Primary department at Al Rabeeh Academy, assessment is essential for understanding our students’ progress and achievements, allowing us to tailor our teaching to meet their individual needs. At the start of each academic year, all students complete baseline assessments in the core subjects of English, Maths, Science, and Arabic. These assessments provide us with a clear picture of each student’s current understanding and areas for development.
Students in Year 3 and above also participate in international benchmarking assessments, including CAT4 and the Arabic Benchmarking Test (ABT). These tests provide valuable insights into their cognitive abilities and language proficiency.
Throughout the academic year, we use a combination of assessments to track students’ attainment and progress. These include end-of-topic tests, teacher assessments, and end-of-term exams. This comprehensive approach ensures that we monitor each child’s learning journey effectively and make adjustments to support their ongoing development.
At the end of the year, students in Year 3 and above take part in the GL Progress Test series in English, Maths, and Science, providing a standardised measure of progress.
In the Secondary department at Al Rabeeh Academy, assessment plays a crucial role in identifying each student’s strengths and areas for improvement. This helps us create individualised academic pathways and make necessary adjustments to the curriculum in order to ensure that every child succeeds.
At the start of each year, all subjects carry out baseline assessments, alongside CAT4 and Arabic Benchmarking Tests (ABT). This data enables us to set aspirational targets for each student. Throughout the year, students undergo mini-module assessments, as well as mid-year and end-of-year formalised exams. Formative assessments occur frequently in lessons, with regular checks on understanding and skill development.
Additionally, we follow ADEK assessments using GL Progress Tests in English, Mathematics, and Science. Our students also participate in international benchmarking assessments such as TIMMS and PISA.
In external examination years (Years 11-13), students sit Mock exams to prepare them for the rigour of official exams, with results guiding the next steps in their academic journey.
